Custom Bridal & Debutante Gowns

In addition to working with clients for custom bridal gowns, I worked with several clients each year for the annual Veiled Prophet Ball to create their dream gowns, including the dress shown in the article below.  I specialized in designs that required unconventional engineering and structure.

Working with individual clients to create their one-of-a-kind dream gowns was incredibly rewarding and educational for me.  See below for a visual journey through my design process.

Skills:

  • Consulted with client on design requests and created concept sketches for her to approve

  • Pattern drafting or draping

  • Garment construction, including muslin mock-ups

  • Corsetry and waist-training consulting 

  • Hand-sewn lace and embellishments

Debutante Ball Gown Designs

R&M Designs - Annual Veiled Prophet Ball

Each year, the debutantes of this highly exclusive society came to R&M Designs for custom gowns.  I typically worked with clients who had "wild" ideas.

Skills:

  • Created initial concept sketches and technical flats

  • Drafting and updating pattern pieces

  • Constructed mock-ups and final garments, including hand-sewn embellishments or lace

  • Attended fit check sessions with the fit specialist
